Website data
How do I enter a 'blob' in a Stableford qualifier?
If you have not holed out then enter a zero, otherwise enter the number of strokes taken.
How can I be certain that other ladies' ALG Birdie Tree and ALG Par Ladder scores are correct?
Golf is a self-regulating game and the highest principles are expected of players. We will assume that players will respect these principles but reserve the right to randomly check cards and handicaps with the Ladies Section Secretary of a player's club.
Can I look back at all the cards I have entered during an ALG competition?
Yes, every competitor has her own personal "Home Page" from which you can enter scores, make changes, etc.
Can I see the cards for other courses on the website?
If we have the course card for a club, it will be available.
Can we see the draws for other Groups in the Stableford Tournaments?
We do not have the facility to do this at present.
Will you be using my details for any other purposes?
We will only use your details for ALG related activites such as informing you of new competitions and tournaments.
Your details will not be given to any third party unless you have given your consent.
ALG and my Club
If I am the first member from my Club entering a competition, how do we get our course card into the ALG database?
When you enter your first score card you will be asked to enter the details for your club. Alternatively, cards can be posted to AmateurLadyGolfer.

If your club has more than 10 ladies entered, you can have a Club Leaderboard.
Can I see how my friends are doing on the Leaderboards?
Yes.
Will the AmateurLadyGolfer competitions cause any extra work for our Secretary?
No - it is not our intention to add to the workload of Ladies Section Secretaries. In fact we can help them by running your club's Birdie Tree and Par Ladder competitions online.
How will my Club gain from members participating in AmateurLadyGolfer competitions?
If a club member has entered an AmateurLadyGolfer competition we will promote on our website any club competitions, coffee mornings, etc that are open to ladies from other clubs.
What happens if I change Clubs half-way through an AmateurLadyGolfer competition?
You will need to change your details on your personal "Home Page". You may also need to submit a course card for that club if we do not already have one.
My Club's course is only nine-holes. Can I join in the AmateurLadyGolfer competitions?
As long as your club is CONGU affiliated and is able to issue handicaps you may enter the competitions.

ALG BIRDIE TREE and ALG PAR LADDER competitions
What is the purpose of the Birdie Tree and Par Ladder Competitions?
It is a fun way to play a competition against ladies from all over the country without leaving your own club.
Is the Birdie Tree competition suitable for low handicappers?
Yes, it works for everyone as your handicap is used to calculate the points allocated to each birdie scored.
I only get a birdie once in a blue moon. Why should I join the ALG Birdie Tree?
In addition to the surprise prizes, you may find that your 'once in a blue moon' birdie wins you a monthly prize.
Why are there 'surprise' prizes?
To encourage everyone to enter as many scores as possible. Even if you have not had any birdies or pars you could still win a prize.
What are the "surprise" prizes?
They will vary and may be allocated for such things as the most pars on par 4s, or the most improved golfer, birdies on stroke index 1s, etc.
Why do you include Stroke Index in how the points are calculated?
By including the Stroke Index in the points calculation a player is rewarded with more points for scoring a par or birdie on a difficult hole.
My handicap is under 21. Why can't I join the Par Ladder?
The Par Ladder is currently only available to players with handicaps over 20.5 as lower handicappers tend to score pars more often.
My handicap is above 30, should I join in the Par Ladder and Birdie Tree competitions?
Absolutely, we are keen to encourage all ladies to get more out of playing golf and thereby improve their games.
Can I use the rounded up or down figure for my handicap - i.e. 23 instead of 22.7, or 15 instead of 15.4?
In order to get as accurate a points system as possible we require your exact handicap.
Why do I have to enter my handicap as at 1 January 2007, even if I am entering the Birdie Tree or Par Ladder competition in, say, May 2007?
We will be awarding a prize to the most improved lady golfer over the course of the competition and therefore need to know what your handicap is at the beginning and at the end.
I don't have a handicap yet. Can I join an AmateurLadyGolfer competition?
Our competitions are only available to ladies with handicaps from CONGU affiliated clubs. You are welcome to join our competitions as soon as you have a handicap.
Can I submit scores for any round played?
Yes, provided that the card is properly completed and signed by yourself and a marker and that there were no frost holes or temporary greens.
Can I enter scores for previous months back to the beginning of the current six months, even if I join the competition in a later month?
Yes - the competition has overall prizes as well as monthly prizes.
Can I change my scores if I discover later I have made a mistake when entering them?
Yes, however changes made after the fifteenth of the month will not count towards the previous month's prizes.
What happens if I forget to put in all my relevant cards before the fifteenth of the following month?
Cards can be entered after the fifteenth of the month, however they will not count for the monthly prizes only the overall.
Can I enter scores from qualifiers that I have played at other clubs for the Birdie Tree or Par Ladder?
Yes, cards from any round at any course count towards the Birdie Tree and Par Ladder..
Some courses are much more difficult than others. How do you take account of this in the AmateurLadyGolfer scoring system?
Until a "Slope" system is introduced it is assumed that the difficulty of the course is reflected in the player's handicap.
What happens if the Stroke Index of my course changes?
A new card should be sent to AmateurLadyGolfer.
Some of my golfing friends don't have internet access or an e-mail address, how can they join in?
Scores can be sent by post or fax, but to make it even more fun, invite them home and do your entries together.

Do the two ladies entering as a Pair in the Pairs tournament have to be members of the same club?

How many games will I play if I enter in either the Singles or the Pairs tournament?
You will play at least three games. The first round involves two games - one home and one away. Losing players will then play each other in a Plate Competition.
